Since I announced switching to Mac I’ve gotten a lot of questions what applications I can recommend for a Mac newbie
. So I made a list of applications I recommend, for fun and professional use.

TextMate

One of the best editors for Mac OS X

. It doesn’t look much but under the minimalism there’s a very complete app.

NetNewsWire Lite

Currently my favorite RSS reader with a bunch of great features, including support for podcasting, bloglines as well as for custom stylesheets,.Mac syncing, smart lists and many more.

Saft

Saft is a Safari plugin to add features like full-screen browsing, searchable bookmarks and history, URL shortcuts, kiosk mode and more. Once you go Saft you won’t go back.

A simple FTP program, it does what it’s supposed to do, upload files. Works great for me.

While I am not a mac user myself, I have heard very good things about Virtue.

    About Virtue
A virtual desktop manager for Mac OS. It offers features, eye candy and configurable options that no other desktop manager on the mac has added yet, and is under active development. It is based upon DesktopManager (http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/), which is a lighter, less feature-packed virtual desktop application.

Hmm.. interesting. My list includes, BBedit, Safari 2(for the feeds), Safari Source, Interarchy 8, and Retrospect. I’m happy with most of my list, though I have a ton of RSS feeds so I’m thinking about using a dedicated app like NetNewsWire. Any complaints or suggestions?
